BMTA MARCH 2010 NEWSLETTER
March 2010 Newsletter
Good sunny day!
I thought (since the sun is out) this might be a good time to get
you to thinking tennis!![]()
PLEASE CLICK THE ABOVE LINKS FOR MEMBERSHIP FORM AND EVENT SCHEDULE. Our membership drive begins March 1-February 28. Our dues are used to promoting tennis in the Swannanoa Valley! When sending in your form, PLEASE consider being a volunteer for one or more of our programs/events. Also, PLEASE print the program schedule and put on your refrigerator! Our Business Discounts grew this year, with adding UPS: 5% off UPS shipping, and Arnold Jones (Keller/Williams) offering a free home inspection with agreement. If you know of a business that would like to sponsor BMTA, please let me know by March 15. Your Business Discount will be mailed with your membership card (once membership form is received). Thanks for helping BMTA as well as free advertising for our local Businesses.
It is time to think about spring leagues as signup has begun. Women's Senior (50 up), Men's Senior (50 up), Adult men's or women's, levels 3.0 and/or 3.5, Junior Team Tennis. Play for adults begins in late March and for Jrs. in June. Mixed Doubles Leagues will begin in June.
The Women's Senior will play Sat. mornings at 10:00, March 29-May 17, and Men's Senior on Thursdays at 6:00, beginning March 29. Scott Jumper has consented to be a men's Sr. Captain. Let me know if you'd like to play on a team or create a team. Registration goes through early March.
I know that many of you are wondering about the upper court resurfacing and why they are still closed. With the extremely cold and unusual winter weather, the courts did not have time to cure. Therefore, some bubbling on the cracks has occurred. Jim Orr, Director of Recreation and Parks, will let us know when it is time to "christen" the courts. I'm hoping for a Saturday around 12:00 or a Monday Night Tennis Event. I will keep you up to date on this.
All other dates for the upcoming year, including Volunteer Breakfast, CMUD, Round Robin, Pizza Night are included in the Upcoming Events' attachment.
We are in need of having the backboard repainted at the lower courts. If a few of you would have a morning that you could do this in early spring, BMTA will provide the paint to complete the painting that was begun many years ago through the town. 2-3 people could take care of it in a few hours.
Congratulations to Vijay Director and his men's Owen High School team and to Amanda Thomas with her women's High School team on their great successes this past year. Great wishes to them as the season begins for 2010. BMTA hopes to begin a tennis scholarship fund this year to give a little help to one deserving senior on each team.
In 2009, Black Mountain Tennis Association became Incorporated and nonprofit (c)4. Any donations will be accepted through Recreation and Parks to continue tennis growth and excellence in our area.
Many thanks to all of our members, Board members, volunteers, BM R&P, and to Debra Jarzyna, who updates our website. blackmountaintennis.com
BMTA has provided many wonderful programs and events for the Valley and will continue to do so with your support and volunteer hours.
Thank you to all,
Judy
